Wilko Johnson, conocido principalmente como guitarrista y cantante de la banda inglesa Dr. Feelgood ha muerto a los 75 años. La noticia se ha dado a conocer esta mañana a través de sus redes sociales.
«Esta es una noticia que nunca hubiéramos querido dar, y lo hacemos con gran pesar: Wilko Johnson ha muerto. Murió en su casa el lunes 21 de noviembre. Gracias por respetar la privacidad de la familia en este momento tan triste».
Además de con Dr. Feelgood, banda en la que estuvo entre 1971 y 1977 y acuñaron el término pub rock, también militó en la banda de Roger Daltrey, Ian Dury And The Blockheads, y su The Wilko Johnson Band en la que militó hasta su muerte.
Johnson tuvo una gran influencia en la escena punk y post punk por su particular estilo de fingerpicking que le permitía tocar de manera rítmica y solista al mismo tiempo.
En 2013, Johnson fue diagnosticado de un cancer pancreático, dándole solo un año de vida, pero milagrosamente tras una operación en 2014, lo superó.
Músicos como Jimmy Page, Chris Stein de Blondie o Alex Krapanos de Franz Ferdinand, entre muchos otros, han colgado mensajes de condolencia.

Very sad to hear Wilko Johnson has died. His unique, wired playing & stage presence thrilled & inspired many guitarists, myself included.
